St. Louis Art Museum
If there is a city in the Midwest that hands-down has lots to offer to any group looking for great student travel, it’s St. Louis. The massive volume of what this historically famous city has to offer to any travel group is quite overwhelming. It is very difficult to choose amongst the numerous attractions; however, one of the best ones, in my opinion, is the St. Louis Art Museum (commonly called the SLAM by native St. Louisans), which houses many high-profile exhibits and hosts memorable tours.
The St. Louis Art Museum, located quite conveniently next to the St. Louis Zoo as well as the infamous Jewel Box arboretum in Forest Park, is easy to get to and has an exquisitely beautiful view of the downtown St. Louis area. Many of the collections that the museum contains, which are perfect examples for great St. Louis student tours, include art from pre-Columbian times, Oceania, ancient China, and European and American art from the 20th and 19th centuries. In particular, the museum hosts an ancient Germanic art collection, which it boasts regularly. The museum has various special exhibitions, and they are always updating, changing, and being added to. One exhibit, for example, takes a look into contemporary art.
This Museum offers various tours, both self-guided and guided. The guided tours, which the museum urges you reserve in advance due to their popularity, are led by a highly-trained museum tour guide, happy to answer any questions your group may have on any particular exhibit. This is a great value, as these tours are absolutely free to the general public. They do charge a dollar for featured exhibits, but it is well-worth the cost.
After you’ve toured the museum, great food is just around the corner. The museum has a café, which serves cafeteria self-serve style American food at a discounted price. For more unique dining, the museum also houses Pucks Restaurant which features high society St. Louisan cuisine while diners overlook Sculpture Terrace in the museum. This is a great venue to rest and relax in while continuing to take in the museum’s breath-taking art.
