Budget-Friendly Attractions in Washington D.C.
Being a college student, I personally understand what it's like to not have money. Students, for the most part, are always more concerned with how well they do in school than working a job to get funding for entertainment purposes. When I went to Washington DC over the summer, I was very happy to find out there is a lot to do in the city; not only that, but a lot of it happens to be free. Washington DC is a gorgeous city with a diverse cultural background and rich history. For student travel with financial constraints seeking a rich cultural and educational experience, Washington DC is the place to be.
For tight-budgeted, hungry students, there are several great food places around the city that serve great dishes with an inexpensive price tag. There are two places to note here, first being Chinatown Express where you can watch your chef make the unique Chinese noodles before you devour them for under five dollars. Julia's Empanadas is another great option, where excellent Mexican food is sold for less than five dollars. Make sure to try the empanadas.
Another free, fun thing to do while you are in Washington DC, great for Washington DC student tours, is to visit the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This museum offers many excellent tour options that are led by the museum's highly trained research specialists. Your group will no doubt learn loads of information about American Art history. Special tours are also available at this museum, so if you really want to spend more time at an exhibit, the museum staff is happy to help you. Tour space is limited, so it is strongly suggested you plan in advance of any planned group trip.
Another free option includes The Phillips Collection. This museum is the first museum of modern art ever constructed in the United States. It features several, free exhibits for any student not wanting to spend money. For touring purposes, the collection offers two types of educational tours, both self-guided and guided. On completion of your tour, the tour guide coordinator will be more than happy to give ideas for some delicious low-cost DC dining. The tours are just over an hour long and take place in the late morning Tuesday through Friday. The tour group sizes have a maximum of 50 students plus teachers and it's strongly suggested you make reservations in advance as tickets for these great tours go fast!
