Phoenix Three Day Great Outdoors Itinerary

Phoenix may be the 5th largest city in the Unites States, but there are plenty of places to get away from the fast paced city life and explore the great outdoors.

Day 1
  • Desert Botanical Gardens
Learn about Sonoran Desert plants at this 145 acre theme garden. Hosting one of the world's finest collections of desert plants, this one-of-a-kind museum showcases 50 acres of beautiful outdoor exhibits. Home to 139 rare, threatened and endangered plant species from around the world, the Garden offers interesting and inspiring experiences.
  • Phoenix Zoo
The 125 acre Phoenix Zoo is home to approximately 1,300 animals including 200 endangered or threatened birds, mammals and reptiles from around the world. Each lives along one of four distinct trails: Tropics, Africa, Arizona and the Nina Mason Pulliam Children’s Trail.
  • South Mountain Park
At over 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park is often referred to as the largest municipal park in the country. It boasts 51 miles of primary trails for hiking and mountain biking. Hike up the peak for spectacular panoramic views of the Valley of the Sun to end your day with a perfect picnic!

Day 2
  • Kayak Trip
Start your morning with a kayak trip across the calm waters of Tempe Town Lake.
  • Four Wheel Excursion
Get geared up for a rough and rugged four-wheel excursion through the Sonoran Desert to the Four Peaks Mountains.
